What the Government of Ontario says
- Businesses and non-profits with 20 or more employees must submit an accessibility compliance report. The deadline is December 31, 2026, and the report is due every three years. (ontario.ca: Completing your accessibility compliance report)
- Filing your report is a legal obligation under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA). The report confirms you have met your current accessibility requirements. (ontario.ca: Accessibility rules for businesses and non-profits)
- Reports are filed online through the Accessibility Compliance Reporting Portal. You will need your legal name, business number (BN9), number of employees, and the contact details of a certifier: a senior officer with legal authority to confirm the report is complete and accurate.
- If you do not file, you could face enforcement measures, which can include financial penalties. Ontario's approach starts with education and audits and can escalate to Director's orders, administrative penalties and prosecution. Under section 37 of the AODA, a corporation convicted of an offence can be fined up to $100,000 for each day the offence continues (up to $50,000 per day for other persons). (AODA, s. 37(3); ministry guide, PDF)
